Exhibition in Philadelphia at Commodore Barry Club

A solo exhibition of 16 original portraits in charcoal and on colored paper, by portrait artist Megan Lawlor is on display now through December 31st, 2011 at the Commodore Barry Club, 6815 Emlen Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In a recent conversation Lawlor said, “Being involved in this project has given me a greater sense of my past and my Irish heritage. My hope is that those who view this exhibition will leave with a greater sense of history and a deep appreciation for these remarkable individuals who gave so much for the cause of Ireland’s freedom.”
About how her work unfolds; she had this to say, “While I’m working I find that the longer I observe an object or a person or a place, more is revealed to me. It’s as if I’m swept up in an orchestra of moving colors, shapes and emotions; a profoundly intense, involuntary concentration of all of my senses.
William Butler Yeats wrote, ‘We taste and feel and see the truth. We do not reason ourselves into it.’
Perhaps those who look at my work will see and feel more than they already know is there.”
